Comment For The Longest Ride Cinemas Lumiere

Name : Amy Nicholson / Alias : L.A. Weekly
It's easy to tease a Nicholas Sparks movie. It's harder to admit that he's good at his niche - and has a string of 10 films, nearly all profitable, to prove it

Name : Todd McCarthy / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
Just as the basic plot points are hard to swallow, even the most rudimentary aspects of the characters' interactions feel forced, artificial and unspontaneous.

Name : Christy Lemire / Alias : ChristyLemire.com
The Longest Ride is pretty darn tolerable - and sometimes even enjoyable - not just for fans but also for regular people who are, you know, cynical.

Name : Soren Anderson / Alias : Seattle Times
Carolina settings, star-crossed lovers, elements of tragedy: Sparks' formula works. Get out your handkerchiefs, and rest assured that there will be uplift at the end.

Name : Scott Foundas / Alias : Variety
Appealing performances by a trio of second- and third-generation Hollywood kids keep this three-hankie twaddle more bearable than it deserves, but "Ride" will surely go the longest with audiences for whom this is not their first Sparks rodeo.

Name : Jesse Hassenger / Alias : AV Club
Qualifies as one of the best Sparks films by virtue of not including any love-ghosts or destructive misinformation about how Alzheimer's works.

Name : Bilge Ebiri / Alias : New York Magazine/Vulture
Look, it's easy to laugh at this stuff - that's part of the game, in fact. To buy into these movies, you have to buy into the silliness. But The Longest Ride, for all its ridiculousness, comes by its emotions honestly.

Name : Liam Lacey / Alias : Globe and Mail
Eventful, polished, and knuckle-bitingly dull, the 10th film adapted from a novel by Nicholas Sparks, combines fate, bull riding and some powerful Hollywood bloodlines among its young cast.

Name : Lou Lumenick / Alias : New York Post
Can the ailing Ira help the young lovers work things out in his limited time left on earth - or even afterward? Let's just say Sparks works up to an ending that's as shamelessly preposterous as it is predictable.

Name : Michael Phillips / Alias : Chicago Tribune
Even when Eastwood and Robertson, pleasant enough company, threaten to float off the screen, "The Longest Ride" glides along and delivers its reheated comfort food by the ton.

Name : Wesley Morris / Alias : Grantland
The Longest Ride has as much bull as the 10 previous Sparks adaptations. This is one of the few you can ride for longer than eight seconds.

Name : Stephanie Merry / Alias : Washington Post
People don't go to Sparks movies for subtlety; they go to warm their hearts by bearing witness to true love. Of course, that requires a story that rings true. In "The Longest Ride," authenticity is in short supply.

Name : Mick LaSalle / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
Everything in the movie is suffused by a vision of life that is resoundingly and evidently false, but as this vision is not repulsive, but is intended to reassure, the lies don't produce anger or frustration. No, they bring on the laughs.

Name : Barbara VanDenburgh / Alias : Arizona Republic
It's exactly what you'd expect, except executed with more-than-typical competence with the help of a few excellent actors and some gorgeously photographed rodeo scenes that capture the drama and thrill of bull riding.

Name : Colin Covert / Alias : Minneapolis Star Tribune
This is spoon-fed entertainment, but it tastes pretty good.

Name : Ben Sachs / Alias : Chicago Reader
Though Tillman doesn't quite elevate the maudlin material into serious drama, the result is uncommonly sensitive.

Name : Joe Morgenstern / Alias : Wall Street Journal
Conforms to a timeworn, and shopworn, Sparks formula of troubled protagonists receiving wisdom, or inspiration, or both, from unexpected sources.

Name : Betsy Sharkey / Alias : Los Angeles Times
The two-plus hours is mostly marked by an emptiness born of scene after scene designed to blatantly manipulate emotions rather than trigger them.

Name : Peter Howell / Alias : Toronto Star
It runs a long 128 minutes. You have to wade through not just puddles of tears, but also piles of BS.

Name : Richard Roeper / Alias : Chicago Sun-Times
"The Longest Ride" treats us to a twist that's so ridiculous I think we're almost supposed to laugh. It's not quite on the "Are you KIDDING ME!?" level of awfulness as the big reveal in "Safe Haven," but it's close. It's close.

Name : A.O. Scott / Alias : New York Times
Fairly tedious, despite the charm and sincerity of the actors.

Name : Sandy Cohen / Alias : Associated Press
The film is likely to satisfy Sparks fans. And it brings something new to the romance genre: bull riding.

Name : James Berardinelli / Alias : ReelViews
As a romance, a drama, or even a sports movie, The Longest Ride never reaches a satisfying destination.

Name : Alonso Duralde / Alias : TheWrap
The real love story is between Eastwood and David Tattersall's camera, which spends so much time leering over the actor's cheekbones, abs and other attributes that you begin to wonder if someone's going to call Human Resources.

Name : Peter Keough / Alias : Boston Globe
It tries to bridge the gap between pop culture and cultural elitism, between high art and the common commodity that everyone else buys tickets to see. A worthy goal, but it results in a movie that has none of the virtues of either.

Name : Joe Neumaier / Alias : New York Daily News
If this is your particular poison, it won't kill you. But anyone averse to Sparks' sappy touch may get sick from all the bull.

Name : Stephen Whitty / Alias : Newark Star-Ledger
The movie has nowhere to go and spends more than two hours getting there.

Name : Rafer Guzman / Alias : Newsday
The young Eastwood is better than you might expect, though it's Chaplin who shines in this Nicholas Sparks romance.

Name : Connie Ogle / Alias : Miami Herald
Merely adding an older generation of lovers to a love story does not make your romance one for the ages.

Name : Claudia Puig / Alias : USA Today
The Longest Ride is sentimental, forced and silly, but it's sure to hit the bull's-eye with its intended audience.

Comment For Mechanic: Resurrection Aanhangwagen Review

Name : Greg Quill / Alias : Toronto Star
Standard Statham stuff.

Name : Keith Uhlich / Alias : Time Out
Depth of character is traded for bloody broad strokes.

Name : Rene Rodriguez / Alias : Miami Herald
Haven't we already had enough movies about solitary, enigmatic hit men? Is there anything possibly left to do with the genre that's new?

Name : John Anderson / Alias : Washington Post
"The Mechanic," 2011 edition, is a striking-looking work, combining an arty inkiness with a retro-graininess that more or less screams 1970s, albeit without the cliches and flatness. If only you liked the people in the picture.

Name : Brian Lowry / Alias : Variety
It proves middling, and occasionally muddled, on almost every level.

Name : Tom Long / Alias : Detroit News
Jason Statham needs to get a tune-up, switch gears and hit the gas.

Name : Manohla Dargis / Alias : New York Times
A sputtering remake in need of a more powerful recharge.

Name : James Berardinelli / Alias : ReelViews
The Mechanic is adequate light entertainment for those who enjoy thrillers, but it is uneven and the underwhelming ending will disappoint those who enjoyed the delicious irony served up by its predecessor.

Name : Michael Phillips / Alias : Chicago Tribune
Let's not denigrate the term "action film" by applying it to the remake signed by director Simon West. This is a violence film, not an action film.

Name : Glenn Kenny / Alias : MSN Movies
The Mechanic is my kind of action movie: nasty, brutish, brisk and ass-kicking.

Name : Mary F. Pols / Alias : TIME Magazine
The interplay between dry Arthur and crazy, caustic Steve is what makes the movie fun.

Name : Joe Williams / Alias : St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Even by the sloppy, soulless standards of hit man movies, "The Mechanic" is a mess.

Name : Bruce Diones / Alias : New Yorker
Statham is a model of control; he's steely and graceful in his action scenes, and his interplay with the wiry Foster delivers the goods.

Name : Todd McCarthy / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
Frantic, numbing redo of the Charles Bronson original for hardcore Statham and action fans only.

Name : Owen Gleiberman / Alias : Entertainment Weekly
The Mechanic is ham-fisted pulp, like Robert Rodriguez's Machete taking itself seriously.

Name : Dana Stevens / Alias : Slate
The Arthur/Steve relationship at the movie's heart is what lifts The Mechanic above the common run of kablammo! action thrillers.

Name : Mark Jenkins / Alias : NPR
Betrayal, sympathy and regret are central to the story, but there's hardly any room for such feelings amid the clockwork carnage.

Name : Peter Travers / Alias : Rolling Stone
The result is just good enough to pass as an action flick you watch with the forgiving gaze that comes from too many beers and too little sleep.

Name : John Hartl / Alias : Seattle Times
West's slick, fairly faithful new remake gives partial screenplay credit to Lewis John Carlino, who wrote the original "Mechanic." But the picture isn't likely to do for Jason Statham what the 1972 film did for Bronson.

Name : Lou Lumenick / Alias : New York Post
Considerably more fun than the rather lethargic original.

Name : Stephen Whitty / Alias : Newark Star-Ledger
The new stunts are explosive, over-the-top and a sign of the times - action fans aren't happy these days, it seems, unless at least one scene involves a jackknifing 18-wheeler and a fireball.

Name : Steven Rea / Alias : Philadelphia Inquirer
It's about gunplay and pricey sports cars bursting into flames while three or four cameras capture the moment. In slo-mo. Cue the cool music.

Name : J. R. Jones / Alias : Chicago Reader
While that pop mythology was still relatively fresh back in Bronson's day, it's so played out at this point that not even the enjoyably no-nonsense Statham can pump any life into it.

Name : Derek Adams / Alias : Time Out
With its unrelenting violence and obligatory bonking sessions, this is one for avid 'Stath' fans only.

Name : Mick LaSalle / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
To the extent it makes sense, it's a collection of time-honored cliches, and to the extent that it's original, "The Mechanic" is insane, bordering on gloriously insane.

Name : Leah Rozen / Alias : TheWrap
Statham, he of the chiseled physique and sexily receding hairline, holds his own here, doing what he has to in scenes and no more - which is perfect for a movie like this.

Name : Roger Ebert / Alias : Chicago Sun-Times
"The Mechanic" tells a story as old as "Hamlet" in a style as new as unbaked bread. What's the point?

Name : Rafer Guzman / Alias : Newsday
Clinging to false heroism and terrified of anything too dark, The Mechanic is a tough-guy movie for wimps.

Name : Joe Morgenstern / Alias : Wall Street Journal
Mr. Statham, the specialist in English tough guys who was so affecting in "The Bank Job," has more to offer than "The Mechanic" has the grace to receive.

Name : Una LaMarche / Alias : New York Observer
The Mechanic is like a Beretta loaded with blanks - quick and brutal but ultimately empty.

Name : Scott Bowles / Alias : USA Today
The first legitimate action film of 2011.

Name : Tom Russo / Alias : Boston Globe
An intermittently arresting, mostly standard action entry that deals death noisily more than cleverly - a lot like the original.

Name : Liam Lacey / Alias : Globe and Mail
There just isn't enough consistent energy to light up the glum, generic plot or enliven the one-dimensional performances.

Name : Bill Goodykoontz / Alias : Arizona Republic
Statham is, in his understated way, a satisfying action star, stoically going about his business. Foster is just a flat-out good actor, as anyone who saw his work in "The Messenger" or "3:10 to Yuma" can attest.

Name : Josh Modell / Alias : AV Club
Statham and Foster play off each other nicely, and director Simon West strikes a playful balance between carnage and conviviality, gore and gregariousness.

Name : Brian Miller / Alias : L.A. Weekly
The Company Men with guns, but no families or pensions. All they have is their job, and retirement literally equals death.

Name : Christy Lemire / Alias : Associated Press
Statham, the British star of the Transporter and Crank films and an old favorite of Guy Ritchie, has a quietly fierce physicality, a stylish masculinity that makes him appealing to both men and women.
